Just imagine being able to have packages delivered straight to the trunk of your Volvo S60, C30 or XC70. Well, one day this could be a reality. Failed deliveries not only generate losses for companies, they're also a huge inconvenience for shoppers, and now Volvo has a solution to the problem.

The automaker is currently in the process of testing mobile deliveries, which would make it possible for drivers to have items dropped off at their cars or SUVs. Since most people are not at home during the day, being able to have items delivered to a vehicle is a unique solution. Using "roam delivery," you could save time and hassle by receiving groceries or packages at your immediate location, so they wouldn't just get returned to the post office, left at your home's doorstep or lost.

With Volvo's new technology, which is based off the telematics app Volvo On Call, when a delivery is made and accepted, a digital trunk-access "key" is sent out and allows you to track when your car has been opened and closed. Then, once the items have been delivered and the trunk is closed, digital access to the car is cut off. The tool is still being tested, but if Volvo decides to take it from concept to reality, it could be a great new convenience for Volvo owners.

The roam delivery service would also represent a groundbreaking change in the automotive industry, turning cars into much more than vessels for transportation. In a country where people are feeling more and more stressed out over time and 60 percent of shoppers say they have experienced delivery problems, we believe this service would be a big success.
