Volvo is using a bit of old Google tech to help launch the new 2015 Volvo XC90. Partnering with Google Cardboard, the automaker is introducing a new smartphone app that when combined with the Google Cardboard acts as a virtual reality test drive.
Google Cardboard came out a few years ago and many tech experts celebrated the innovative piece, thanks to its low-tech premise and user-friendly interface. Basically, Google Cardboard allows users to turn their smartphones into a virtual reality headset, when paired with an app. Volvo's new app takes the "driver" through the interior features of the new 2015 Volvo XC90, while also showing how the cars handles on the road.
For those who don't have a Google Cardboard, Volvo's app can also be used without VR tech, though we highly recommend going with the Cardboard, as it provides a better - and more fun - "driving" experience for the viewer.
Check out the video below to see how the new Volvo app works with the Cardboard viewer. And when you're ready to have a real test drive of the new 2015 Volvo XC90, stop by Volvo of Dallas next year.
