Volvo’s newest powerplant is overtaking the competition in a big way. The new plug-in is said to get nearly 112 miles per gallon.

Debuting in Europe this fall, the Volvo’s new plug-in hybrid powertrain is first launching on the automaker’s new XC90. The crossover is one of Volvo’s biggest debuts in years and this new plug-in version should take it to a whole new level. According to a Volvo press release the new powertrain will consumer only 2.1 liters of fuel every 62 miles, with the crossover being able to go over 27 miles on electric power alone.

"We have been working hard to earn our competitive edge and to give our customers the ultimate combination of performance and low fuel consumption. Our Twin Engine technology has enabled us to build on our heritage of efficient powertrain development in a completely new way," said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Car Group.

And don’t think that this new eco-friendly engine loses anything on power. The powerplant gets 407 horsepower that boasts an all-wheel drive system. This amazing new system is already becoming an extremely popular version of the XC90. The car’s plug-in version is already sold out through next year, with every one in five XC90 orders being for the PHEV model.

The standard Volvo XC90 will come to Dallas this fall. For more information about the crossover and its plug-in version, contact Volvo of Dallas today!
