The automaker will begin to use Microsoft’s HoloLens glasses, which offer a “mixed reality” view that combines both the virtual and real world. Volvo hopes to use the glasses in not only an engineering capacity, but also on the salesroom floor in order to give customers a high-tech way to view various trims and products.
"HoloLens offers the freedom to create a bespoke experience which customers can steer themselves. Imagine using mixed reality to choose the type of car you want – to explore the colors, rims, or get a better understanding of the features, services and options available," said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Cars.
Outside of this new virtual reality system, the two companies are also collaborating on new autonomous driving systems and predictive analysis that will help improve road safety. There’s no word yet on how exactly Microsoft will be joining Volvo in the self-driving revolution, but we are very excited to see what will come from this alliance.
