Volvo celebrated its 60th American anniversary in October; a momentous occasion as the automaker moves into its newest chapter.
Volvo began building cars in its native Sweden in 1924, but only began to send cars toward American shores in 1955. According to Volvo CEO Lex Kerssemakers, the automaker delivered just 26 cars during that first year, but would go on to sell over 10,000 units just two years later in 1957.
The anniversary celebration took place at the backlot of Paramount Studios in California, where guests commemorated that first year in the U.S. by dressing in 1955 clothing and taking a look at the many historical Volvo models that were on display.
Several modem pieces of Volvo history were also on display, including some newly minted 3X3 autos that will be built on the automaker’s new Scalable Product Architecture like the very popular Volvo XC90 SUV.
