Imagine ordering that new shirt you fell in love with online and having it delivered straight to the trunk of your car while you’re out running errands or stuck at your work desk. Volvo is bringing this level of convenience to car owners in Sweden as part of a collaboration with a start-up known as urb-it.
The automaker’s unique In-car Delivery service has been tried-and-tested, and now with the help of urb-it, the service is coming to the market full force, with plans to expand to 200 cities worldwide by 2025.
With Volvo’s advanced connected car services, users can order items from a list of approved vendors and expect their items to be delivered securely in just two hours! The trial, which takes place in Stockholm City, includes free delivery if the two-hour deadline is missed. This highlights Volvo’s confidence that the “urbers” will get packages where they need to go on time.
Urbers receive a special order code via smartphone when they accept a delivery. After picking up items, they use a digital trunk key to securely deliver goods, and the key is quickly disabled once the delivery has been made and the trunk is closed. Urbers are strictly vetted by urb-it to ensure exceptional service, traceability and security for trial testers.
“We understand the value of the In-car Delivery service we have developed. We’ve all had phone calls at work from delivery people trying to deliver packages to our homes that need to be signed for when there is no one home. With our In-car Delivery service we effectively turn your car into a delivery location and assign a one-time digital key to the delivery person, effectively eliminating delivery failure,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President Marketing Sales and Service at Volvo Car Group.
