XC40 Recharge: The First Pure Electric SUV from Volvo

The 2020 Volvo XC40 takes efficiency and power to new levels. This European sport utility vehicle has been completely revamped to offer a fully electric drive on the highway.

A Look Inside the Volvo XC40

Forget about a turbocharged engine block or other mechanical technologies. The 2020 Volvo XC40 won't release a single drop of carbon emissions during a drive. Under the hood, this redesigned SUV has a powerful battery with a peak output of 78 kW. Rated at 402 horsepower, the battery is significantly more powerful than most I-4 and V6 engine blocks on the current marketplace. This propulsion system allows the car to tow a 2,000-pound trailer over long hauls.

The estimated driving range from a full charge is approximately 200 miles. A fast-charging system is available to restore up to 80 percent of power in less than an hour. However, the charging time of a depleted battery might take up to 24 hours at home. Volvo suggests that owners use charging systems with 3.5 kW or 11 kW ratings for optimum results.

In addition to having an emissions-free design, the 2020 Volvo XC40 has a beautiful exterior design. Up to eight paint options are available for this electric SUV, including bright shades of red and blue with natural inspirations. This all-new Volvo model also offers excellent security features, like an electronic key fob with anti-theft protection. The Blind Spot Information System is a notable active safety technology in this efficient family car.

You'll get some help from the Steer Assist when there's a need to change lanes in a critical situation quickly. Additionally, the XC40 has automatic braking with an alert system. Most of the accident-avoidance systems in this SUV are powered by the Pilot Assist, which analyzes traffic movement around you. If necessary, this technology will adjust the car's speed relative to other cars that are ahead.

The XC40 SUV also has the updated Sensus infotainment system with a bright touch screen and voice controls. Google Assistant is integrated into the updated multimedia system. You can easily access Google Maps and other services that supplement the built-in GPS navigation software. Some other notable interior amenities in this electric Volvo car include climate-controlled seats with a leather finish. The leather-wrapped gear selector engages several simple settings in the electronic transmission, including reverse, drive, and park.
