Recently, Volvo Cars became a founding member of the accelerating to Zero Coalition. This means that this car company will be asking for more movement on climate action from the governments of the world than it had before.
Climate Action
Volvo has decided to join the Accelerating to Zero Coalition, which will start at the UN Change Conference in Egypt this year. Volvo has said that meeting the threat of global warming requires more action. This is why they chose to join the COP28. The coalition is all about making their way to goals such as 100 percent of the van and global sales free of all tailpipe emissions by 2040. with hopefully no later than 2035 for leading markets such as the US, Europe, China, and so on. The goal is to reduce tailpipe emissions to zero, all through the electrification of fleets and more. This is a furtherance of goals Volva has, such as trying to be fully electric by 2020.
Volvo is further stating that combustion engines are outdated technology now from the past, and it's important that allied car makers abandon them to properly confront climate change. The announcement came only a week after Volvo announced its EX90, the electric flag of the fleet. Volvo has been helping other organizations as well, such as the 200 different businesses that were calling on their governments to do more to help with climate change. The Climate Pact only has 29 countries in it so far, but it is sure to grow over time. They also talked about how carbon pricing can help with handling climate change over the long run as well. There is also an initiative called the Call of Carbon, which should also have a major impact on reducing carbon emissions.
This approach from Volvo about Carbon pricing makes them one of the first to help regulate carbon through a carbon pricing mechanism.
