Stephanie Wijk and her daughter, Juni, were on their way to a sports arena to celebrate their hockey team's 80th anniversary. What began as an exciting, festive outing suddenly took a terrifying turn. As they soaked in the lively sights and sounds outside the arena, an unexpected moment on the road nearly ended in tragedy.
Volvo's Safety Features Save a Mother's Daughter
Stephanie and her children were set for an afternoon of fun. While waiting for the pedestrian signal to change, she held hands with her seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son. To the young kids, the buzzing crowd and anticipation felt just like visiting "an amusement park."
"Can we go there, Mum?!" they eagerly asked. Stephanie reminded them to wait patiently for the green light before crossing over to join the festivities. But the moment the light changed, Juni's excitement took over. She darted toward the street, unaware that an oncoming driver had also just received a green signal. Due to a bend in the road, the driver had no view of the family approaching the crossing.
Unaware of the child stepping into his path, the driver accelerated. Stephanie screamed in terror for the car to stop. Fortunately, the driver's Volvo XC40 reacted immediately, coming to a complete stop barely a single meter away from Juni. Reflecting on the close call, Stephanie shared: "Without Volvo's advanced safety technology, my daughter, the most precious thing in my life, might not be here today."
Volvo's Safe Space Technology works to protect lives in critical moments just like this. When pedestrians, especially excited children, lose focus and drivers face limited visibility, automated safety systems bridge the gap. A vehicle capable of detecting a pedestrian and braking before an impact makes every roadway significantly safer. There are many reasons to choose a Volvo, but none matters more than its life-saving driver-assist features.
