Learn How the Volvo Premium Sedan Compares to its Rivals

There are many luxury sedans out there, but some stand above the rest when it comes to features, performance, and safety. Three class leaders that tend to attract the most acclaim are our Volvo S90, the Audi A6, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, so we decided to take a look and see how the S90 fares in a head-to-head competition against its competitors.

Volvo S90 vs. Audi A6

Performance

There's a significant difference in philosophies between the two models when it comes to engines. While the Audi's 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 is more powerful than the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four found in the S90, that comes with a lower fuel efficiency. Then there's the fact that Volvo offers three engine options for the S90, while the A6 is limited to that one V6. The S90 can also be outfitted with a 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged inline-four that delivers more power, or a version of that supercharged and turbocharged inline-four that teams with an electric motor to produce 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. That engine far outperforms the Audi's, while still earning the better combined fuel economy estimates.

Safety

Both sedans are loaded with the safety features you want as you're traveling around Allen, TX. Audi is understandably proud of their new Pre-Sense system, which offers features such as a 360-degree camera system that have been present on the S90 since 2017. Built on a reinforced steel frame that's the strongest of any large sedan on the roads today, the S90 includes safety features you won't find on the Audi A6. These include a whiplash protection system, driver alert monitor, and a built-in child booster seat.

Cost

Not only does the S90 come with a lower Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, but it also has added inherent value when compared to its German rival. Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles, while Audi leaves you responsible for those scheduled maintenance costs after the first visit.

Volvo S90 vs. Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Value

The Volvo S90 is offered at a lower starting MSRP than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, making it the better value from the start. The good people in our Finance Center checked and reported back to us that research shows the Volvo S90 is also much less expensive when it comes to five-year ownership costs, so you'll save a significant chunk of money when it comes to insurance, fuel, repairs, maintenance, and fees when you choose it over the E-Class.

Performance

Not only does the S90 offer more engine options for your Dallas, TX commute, but they're also more powerful than the engines found in the E-Class. The standard engine in the S90 makes 250 horsepower, while the standard engine for the E-Class creates 241 horsepower. When it comes to max power, the battle is truly unfair. The E-Class tops out at a respectable 362 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque; meanwhile, the T8 hybrid engine in the S90 generates 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

Safety

As you'd expect, both sedans are well-equipped when it comes to your safety. However, there are some features found on the S90 that aren't offered for the E-Class. For instance, the S90's child safety locks can be activated from the driver's seat, while the E-Class requires you to manually engage them at each door. Also, the Volvo S90 features a built-in child booster seat that's more secure due to it being directly attached to the seat. Rather than lugging a booster seat in and then fiddling with the positioning, as required for the s90E-Class, S-90 owners in Frisco, TX can just fold and lower the built-in seat as needed.
