Volvo Vehicle Service Warning Indicators

Today, we explain ten dashboard indicators found in most modern cars. These can improve your on-road safety, and they can help you know when to book maintenance appointments with our pros at Crest Volvo Cars.

Airbag Fault

Airbag Fault

You'll see this light if you have a problem with your secondary restraint system. The SRS includes your airbags, seat belts, and associated tech. Please make a service appointment as soon as you see this indicator. Ignoring it could lead to an SRS malfunction during an accident.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light

Often, this indicator has a gas pump on it. You will need to stop for fuel soon. Depending on your car's maker, you have anywhere from two gallons to less than one gallon remaining in your tank. Check your owner's manual for more info.

Oil Pressure Warning Light

Oil Pressure Warning Light

This indicator warns of low oil pressure. It would be best if you safely stopped to check your oil level. If it is within the acceptable range, the low pressure is likely related to your oil pump. In that case, your car will not run properly until you replace the pump.

Service Vehicle Soon

Service Vehicle Soon

This indicator means you should schedule an oil change. At your appointment, a competent service tech will also rotate your tires and administer any other service needed for your current mileage.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

This government-required system tells you when your tires have insufficient air pressure. You cannot safely operate your car on low tires. Find an air pump, check your tires, and add air where appropriate. If your air is sufficient while the indicator keeps shining, you probably need your TPMS sensors replaced.

Slip Indicator

Slip Indicator

You'll see this light flash rapidly when your car's traction features engage to assist with slippage. If the light shines constantly and you are not experiencing slippage, you likely have a malfunction in your traction system. We can repair this important system for you.

Charging System Warning Light

Charging System Warning Light

In most models, this indicator features the image of a battery. It warns you of a fault along your charging circuit. That circuit includes the battery and several other parts. We can help you determine the problem and get you back on the road.

Brake System

This light indicates trouble in your braking hardware or connected software. You can drive a short distance with this light displayed. Make an appointment for brake system service.

Open Door Warning Light

You have an open door if you see this indicator. Before you continue your drive, shut it safely.

Coolant Level Warning

Engine coolant protects your engine from heat damage. If this indicator displays, please seek help for your low coolant level. Operating your car on low coolant is unwise.
