Air Cabin Filter

Benefits of Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Although you can't see the cabin air filter, it serves the important purpose of filtering out contaminants in the air. The filter prevents dirt, dust, pollen, smoke, and smog from entering the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in your vehicle. In turn, it keeps the temperature in the cabin at a regular temperature. If the HVAC system does not have access to clean air, its motor must work harder when you turn on the heating or air conditioning systems. This causes strain on the system, and it might mean you need to replace the HVAC components sooner than expected. In turn, that leads to more money spent on car repairs. If the cabin air filter is clogged with debris, you may smell an unpleasant odor when you run the AC or heating system. The windows may also form condensation, and you might notice respiratory irritation or nasal congestion.

How Often Should I Replace My Cabin Air Filter?

At a minimum, you should aim to change the cabin air filter in your car about every 12,000 miles. However, you might also need to change the cabin air filter more often in certain situations. If your car is exposed to high volumes of dust, dirt, smoke, pollen, mold, or smog, you may need to have the car's cabin air filter changed at about 6,000 miles instead. Anytime you notice clogged air filter symptoms, include condensation on the windows, respiratory irritation, or unpleasant smells when you turn on the AC or heat, you should bring your car to our service center for an evaluation.
