Image: What To Do With A Cracked Volvo Windshield

A cracked windshield is a serious issue, and it can be a scary one if the crack occurs with little or no warning. However, there are steps that you can take to resolve this problem and ensure that your vehicle is safe to drive again.

Should the Glass Be Fixed or Replaced?

The first question to ask is if you can fix the problem by sealing the crack or if you need to replace the windshield entirely. For long or deep cracks, you'll need to replace the windshield as it won't maintain its structural integrity for long, regardless of how much you try to seal it. However, if the crack is thin or relatively small, it may be possible to seal it. Of course, it's worth noting that the crack will still be visible, which could be a hindrance when trying to drive.

Glass Repair Might Be a Covered Cost

Your Volvo manufacturer warranty may cover the cost of replacing a cracked windshield. Your insurance policy may also cover the cost of glass replacement, depending on your deductible. If the cost of glass repair or replacement is less than your deductible or not covered under the warranty, most repair shops will let you pay cash for this service. In such a scenario, no claim against your warranty or insurance policy will be made.

The Old Glass Will Be Taken Away

Typically, the old windshield is removed and hauled away by whoever takes care of the repair. Therefore, you won't have to worry about transporting glass in your vehicle or otherwise have to figure out where you are going to dispose of it in accordance with local, state or federal laws.
